Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
-
What do I need to order a pair of glasses from Savvy Specs - 'the online glasses store'?
Just a prescription from your Optician. Preferably, but not essentially a PD (Pupillary Distance measurement) as well.
-
How do I get my prescription?
Arrange an eye test with your Optician. Once the eye test is finished, request a copy of your prescription (which legally, they're obliged to provide). Request your PD as well and log onto www.onlineglassesstore.com where you'll save money on your eyewear purchase.
-
Can you take the prescription from my current lenses?
We can, but it is a service that we have to charge for. If you send your current glasses in, we can read the prescription on them, but need assurance that they are no older than 2 yrs from your last eye test. You just need to print off a mail order form from us and send them in using recorded delivery. We'll check the prescription and send them back recorded post for £5.
-
Is my contact lens prescription the same as my glasses prescription?
No, you can't rely on your contact lens prescription to be the same as your glasses prescription. For an accurate glasses prescription, please consult your optician.
-
I can't read my prescription/I don't understand how to enter it online, can I send it in?
Yes, you can send it by fax it or scan and email it to us. By Fax: 01472 690789 By email: support@onlineglassesstore.com If the prescription seems to be odd or misinterpreted, one of our team will contact you on the phone or email details provided to discuss your order.
-
Can you ship worldwide?
Of course! When placing your order on our website, it will ask you your shipping details and country of residence. International shipping may cost slightly more than domestic mail but we have kept it to a minimum. Please check our shipping costs for further information.
-
Will you accept NHS vouchers?
We're sorry but unfortunately we can't take NHS vouchers.
-
I have ordered a pair, but would like to exchange them for a pair of higher value. Can this be done?
It can be done, as long as you're happy paying the difference in price.
-
How do you offer such good value eyewear?
Because we are internet based and therefore have much lower running costs than the High St Opticians, we sell direct to you which enables us to pass on these cost benefits and offer good value for money.
Your Prescription
-
What is a PD and how do it get it?
PD means Pupillary Distance, it is the distance between the two centres of your pupils measures in millimeters. The benefit of having an accurate PD measurement is so that we can glaze the lens in line with your pupils. Many opticians don't provide this information, so we use an average PD taken from statistical data. If you have the PD information then great, but if not then there are two ways of obtaining it; 1) Ask your optician for it 2)Use a measurement ruler and measure it yourself or get a friend to measure it for you. We encourage customers to obtain a PD before they order, however if the PD is wrong, send them back with an accurate PD measurement together with our returns form and we'll re-glaze them or offer you a refund of 90% of the purchase price to cover our administration costs.
-
What Prescription range do you cover?
We cover lens powers between -20.00/ +10.00 SPH (sphere) and -6.00 CYL (cylinder)
-
I can't read my prescription? Can you help?
If you can't read the hand writing of your optician, then you could fax us your prescription to 01472 690789 and we'll try to decipher it, or you could send it to us with a mail order form and we'll return it to you with your specs. If we can't read it either, you might have to go ask your optician to explain it.
